A day at MYC includes classes on Islam and Muslims in America and generally revolves around a theme for the week. Renowned Islamic scholars from all over the world have visited the camp to share their knowledge and example both in and out of classes. Our classes are appropriately geared towards each age-group utilizing diverse teaching techniques from arts and crafts to lectures. Our approach to learning also incorporates case studies, role plays, group projects, and debate in addition to lectures. Click here for details on this year’s curriculum.

The MYC environment not only seeks to energize campers intellectually and spiritually but also physically, and offers fun sports activities to that end. One hour of private swim time for brothers and then for sisters is available every day. Campers also enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, football, and soccer.

“O my Lord! Make me one who establishes regular prayer, and also raise such among my offspring, O our Lord! And accept Thou my prayer.” (Quran 14:40)

The Amir of Prayer program gives campers the opportunity to call the Adhan, give the Iqama, lead prayer and offer reflections on Hadith and verses of the Quran. For the camper who wants to lead prayer, but doesn’t know how, the Amir of Prayer program teaches campers the correct pronunciation, words, and meanings to the Adhan, the Iqama and the prayer itself.

The last two nights of the camp are the most anticipated because the brothers and sisters face off in a dinner competition. Having learned how to work together in kitchen teams all week, each group gets to put their teamwork skills to the test and dazzle the whole camp. The teams are graded on their chosen themes, creativity in their decorations, the quality of the meal, teamwork and table-service. The winners get an ice-cream party in their honor on the last night of camp. Some themes of previous years include: a Day at the Ballgame, Casa Mexicana, a Hawaiian Luau, Chinese Take-out, a Taste of Morocco, and Idaho!

The unique MYC banner has been a coveted prize for over 30 years. Campers get to take home colorful banners calligraphed with the kalima shahada as awards for their Islamic knowledge and practice. The MYC banners and their requirements are as follows:
